Who We Are
The Statistics Users Group is made up of 6 to 10 members to reflect a variety of organisations interested in statistics and the diversity of the general public along with a Chair (who must be neither a member of the States nor an official of a department of the States).
The Chair and members are appointed by the Chief Minister and serve in an honorary capacity.
Ms Gailina Liew
Chair
Ms Gailina Liew (SUG Chair) is a lawyer and independent non-executive director with an international business background. Her current roles include: Senior Independent Director - Digital Jersey, Voting Member - Jersey Data Protection Authority, and Member of the Committee of Management – Public Employees Pension Fund. She brings commercial experience together with public policy and regulatory perspectives across a broad range of sectors in Jersey and is passionate about strengthening democracy through information literacy and civic engagement. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in the fields of science (BSc in Molecular Genetics), law (LLB), and business (MBA). First appointed February 2021.
Mr Auberon Ashbrooke

Mr Auberon Ashbrooke lectures part time in Research on degree courses at Highlands. He is the Honorary Consul for the Republic of Estonia in Jersey, also covering the Guernsey Bailiwick. He has an MA in Economics and an MPhil from Cambridge and an MSc from Exeter. All of these degrees contained research and statistical content. He has a Diploma in Financial Management from ACCA. He has extensive experience in the Ministry of Defence, including as private secretary to the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff as Head of an Internal Consultancy of over 30 research staff, and as Head of the Efficiency Team for an organisation with an annual budget of £7Billion. First appointed November 2016.
Mr Martin Delap

Dr Martin Delap is a self-employed business analyst and project manager. He has a strong academic background in physics and business, followed by substantial experience working in research and statistics for an A level and GCSE Public Examinations Board. Martin has extensive experience of a wide variety of technical and transformation projects across the financial, legal and hospitality sectors. His current areas of interest include the use of data analytics tools to improve the quality of information available and revising processes and systems so that strategic and management decisions can be firmly evidence based. First appointed November 2016.
Ms Maria Pelin

Ms Maria Pelin is a locum Pharmacist who moved to Jersey in 2012 following a career as a pharmacist in Romania and is currently employed as a Project Manager with the Government of Jersey. Ms Pelin speaks six languages, and has Class A Masters in Pharmacy Degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest. First appointed November 2016.
